Are you thinking of getting Invisalign in Mallorca? (5 things you should know)

You might think that by the time you’re an adult it is already too late to straighten your teeth. A lot of the time this misconception comes from the stigma associated with wearing old-fashioned metal braces. With the availability of Invisalign in Mallorca, adults of all ages can fix crooked teeth with comfort and no embarrassment. If you want to know how to get straight teeth, without people noticing that you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance, DENTAL CENTRE MALLORCA’s specialist is here to answer the most commonly asked questions about this revolutionary system.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are more commonly known as virtually ‘’invisible braces’’ because they involve no brackets, bands or wires. They are made from a thin, clear plastic moulded to fit onto your teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

The treatment is based on wearing multiple sets of these aligners, with each consecutive set differing slightly from the previous set in the alignment of the teeth in the mould. By changing to a new set of aligners every couple of weeks, your teeth will move into the desired position as treatment progresses.

Will Invisalign work for me?

We generally recommend Invisalign to patients with mainly aesthetic concerns such as:

  • Crooked teeth

  • Rotated teeth

  • Spaces between teeth

  • Some bite problems - depending on severity

  • Teeth crowding

Is Invisalign better than standard braces?

There are 4 main benefits of this treatment:

  1. Its aesthetic aspect because the aligners are virtually invisible so many people won’t even notice that you are wearing them. This is especially good news for people who have been putting off getting their teeth straightened because they’ve been worried it would attract even more attention to their crooked smile.

  2. How easy it is to maintain good oral hygiene during treatment. Thanks to the fact that the aligners can be easily removed, keeping your teeth clean is easy. Unlike with braces, which have wires and brackets which can get in the way, with Invisalign you can floss and brush as you normally would, getting in between teeth with ease.

  3. No wires and bands, which usually need changing during treatment with standard braces, means fewer visits to the dentist.

  4. The treatment is not painful, unlike old-fashioned braces.

The downside of Invisalign is that it cannot be used for all orthodontic problems such as severe bite issues. But don't worry because our DamonClear braces, with brackets made from a clear ceramic, combine high effectiveness and treatment speed with an improved aesthetic, compared to standard braces.

Is Invisalign suitable for children?

Yes, but, although there is no set age at which Invisalign is suitable for kids, we generally only recommend it to older children and teenagers. The reason for this is that the aligners must be worn for 20-22 hours every day and this requires compliance on your child’s part. If you child is very young and either would keep forgetting to wear their aligner or actively choose not too, then the treatment would basically not work and would not be worth the money spent. The aligners have a specially designed blue compliance indicator which fades as at they are worn, to help you keep an eye on whether your child is wearing theirs.

To summarise, if you are thinking of getting Invisalign in Mallorca you should know that:

  1. Invisalign treatment involves no brackets or wires

  2. It is based on multiple sets of aligners which gradually move teeth

  3. The main benefits of Invisalign are: they're clear, easy to take off, involve fewer visits to the dentist and are painless!

  4. It can fix most orthodontic problems, depending on severity

  5. It can be used in children
